Gozo
Shioda was born on September
thé 9th 1915,
in the Shijuku district of Tokyo.
He enters the practice of Budo by the study of Judo, that
he continues until the 3rd dan.
He meets Master
Ueshiba at the Kobukan
in 1932. He amuses himself to test the techniques
in real fight situations.
After spending 5 years in the Army, he
went back to training with Ueshiba at the
Iwama Dojo, and participating in the farming work.
In
1951, he started to
teach Aikido, he opened thé first
school Yoshinkan Idashu, (Tokyo) and
gave many spectacular demonstrations. He got to be so well
known that he became thé Tokyo
Police Officers trainer.
In 1954, his style attracted
the attention at the great demonstration of all the different
Budo disciplines organised by the "Live Extension Society
of Japan". His style is considered as the "roughest" as
it emphasizes the "atemi". The Yoshinkan Aikido,
rational and clear, helps to understand, and feel the principles on
which Aikido works. Yoshinkan stresses thé importance
of the concrete practice.
In 1990, he creates
the International Yoshinkaï Aikido Federation. Gozo Shioda, has entered the very closed
circle of legendary figures of the Aikido world.
He
died on July the 1 St 1994, aged 79.
